Robert J. Matthews joined Wright, Finlay & Zak as “Of Counsel” in early 2017. Mr. Matthews brings over 35 years of transactional experience in real property and general business law. His real property practice involves finance (representation of both lenders and borrowers), acquisitions, construction, development of all product types including shopping center, office, industrial, residential and hotel/resort, as well as commercial leasing, environmental matters, formation of owners associations, preparation of CC&Rs and operational matters. His business practice includes negotiation, structuring and documentation of business relationships, entity formation, intellectual property, licensing, insolvency, alternative dispute resolution, and review and preparation of contracts.

Mr. Matthews served as an officer and as Regional Counsel, Western United States, for Homart Development (Coldwell Banker/Sears), then the fourth largest developer in the country, where he ran the legal process for both the office and multi-use group, and the community shopping center group. Mr. Matthews is a frequent speaker on real estate and other topics and has published dozens of professional and other articles. He sits on the Boards of various non-profits based in Orange and Los Angeles Counties.
